Staci Appel for State Senate

Biography

Senator Staci Appel was elected to the Iowa senate in 2006, and represents Senate District 37, which includes Warren, Madison and Dallas counties.

Senator Appel is the Assistant Majority Leader of the Senate . She is the chair of the State Government Committee and serves on four other committees:  Appropriations, Agriculture, Education, and Rebuild Iowa.

In 2008 Senator Appel received the Legislator of the Year award from the American Heart Association for her work on the Smokefree Iowa Act and the Healthy Kids Act. She also received the Capital Dome Award that recognized public policy achievement for an outstanding individual whose efforts demonstrated leadership on a high priority of the American Cancer Society.
 
Senator Appel serves on the IPERS board for the state of Iowa.
 
She has been active in several community organizations, including the Irving Elementary PTO as a past president, a charter member of United Way Women's Leadership, a member of the Warren County Child Abuse Prevention Advisory Board, and a Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church. She currently serves on the Church and Society board at her church as well.

Senator Appel is a native Iowan, and resides in rural Ackworth with her husband and six children.
